Growing up, every weekend my dad listened to the newly released music from New Music Friday. You could find him at the back computer combing through the new alt music from not only our favorite bands, but from lesser known artists as well. He sampled everything and back in the day spent between 99 cents and $1.29 for his favorite tunes. With the launch of newly updated music platforms with unlimited downloads for a small fee, our family shares playlists on the regular. My dad still listens to new releases every week and cultivates his “Brand New” playlists for each year with the new releases ranked from most favorite to least favorite (favorite being the key word).
